Simultaneous Interpretation
This type of interpretation - also known as simultaneous translation - is a type of real-time interpreting that happens without the involvement of the original speaker. Simultaneous interpreters sit in a sound-proof booth and interpret in real-time; listeners hear the simultaneous translation via headphones.
Consecutive Interpretation
In this type of interpretation, the interpreter starts interpreting after the speaker has finished his speech. The interpreter is usually placed in close quarters to the speaker and takes notes while the speech is in progress. When the speaker takes a break or finishes the respective speech, the interpreter orally translates the part or all of the speech to the listeners.
Liaison Interpretation
Liaison Interpretation has many different faces but among those, two faces are what we are most acquainted with; escort interpretation and court interpretation. This is the ideal form of interpretation service for small scale meetings such as diplomatic meetings, business meetings, facility visits and such. The interpreter is not ‘invisible’ in these kind of meetings and usually acts as a representative of a party. Speeches are translated either simultaneously or consecutively depending on the equipment available, or the situation the service is provided. One of the most frequently used application of this type of interpretation is the acquisition of such services during times of fairs and expositions and exhibits.
